Mark A. O'Connor
Mark is a graduate of Canton College of Technology and began his career with the Department of Transportation as a TCI in 1993 before joining the regional construction staff as a Senior Engineering Technician in 1994. He has worked on numerous construction projects across the region and had walked across many steel beams before joining the Regional Design staff as a Civil Engineer I in 2001. As a lead designer, Mark has been assigned many demanding assignments, including his current challenge of the Canton Village project. He is an essential resource when it comes to assisting his coworkers solve their task whether it be a software or design challenge. He has been very active in the Transportation Engineers since becoming a member in 1997. As the Chair of the Golf Tournament Committee, Mark played a major role in the success of Conference 65 hosted by Section7 in Alexandria Bay, NY. He has been a participant in Section 7's Habitat for Humanity house building efforts, annual cabin fever festivals and Golf Against Leukemia tournaments. Mark's pride and commitment really shine when it comes to his family and their community. He is a member of the Lowville Volunteer Fire Department, Associate Director on the Lewis County Fair Board and President of the Lowville Little League. He also serves as the coach for his son's baseball team and the chairs the League's fundraising committee. He is also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and works in the kitchen at the annual Father-Daughter Banquet. Mark and his wife Tanya have been married for 17 years and have two very active children, Brian, 12 and Sydney, 10. When he is not busy with family activities, Mark enjoys golf, hunting and mowing his lawn to look like a major league ball park, stripes and all.
